A lot of people overlook the benefits of journaling and think it’s not for them, but there are a few reasons why you should start journaling.
Let me tell you, journaling can transform your life.
Starting a journal is harder than it seems. I always forget to write in mine. I won’t lie, I bought a new journal months ago that I haven’t even written in yet.
I needed a reminder of why I should journal, and I’d say many of you needed that reminder too.
I love the feeling of starting fresh in a brand new journal.
If you haven’t written in a journal, at least give it a try.
Here are 5 reasons why you should start journaling.
5 Reasons Why you Should Start Journaling
Self Reflection
One of the most powerful reasons to journal is that it allows you to self reflect. When looking back, you can gain a new perspective. You get to know yourself better. Journaling can help you better understand yourself and what you can improve in. You can learn to recognize patterns (good or bad) and then change them. Self reflection is all about becoming your best self. One of my favorite ways to self reflect is to use journal prompts for self reflection.
Set your Goals
Another thing I like to do in my journals is set goals. I know I won’t throw my journal away, so this is the perfect place to keep them to see if I actually meet them. You can focus on a certain type of goals (like fitness), or you can do all kinds of goals, like saving a certain amount of money or reading so many books a month.
Improves focus and organized thoughts (brainstorming)
Journaling is also amazing for improving your focus and organizing thoughts. If you ever feel like you can’t think straight, sometimes it’s easier if you write it down. I also like to use journaling to brainstorm ideas. That’s where I keep blog post ideas and ideas for future projects.
Track your growth
Just like setting goals, you can track if you’ve met them. You can use your journal to track your growth. If you go back and read the beginning of your journal, you can see how much you’ve changed. You can even use a bullet journal for tracking specific things, like habits. In my fitness bullet journal, I like to track how many days I’ve exercised, how much water I drink, and how much fast food I eat.
Captures Memories
Another way you can use a journal is to keep memories. I’ve kept all of my journals and planners over the years, and I love to look back and see what I was up to. This way, I keep up with all of the trips and special memories.
Improves writing skills
Even if you don’t start journaling specifically to improve your writing skills, this is always a plus. Like anything, practice makes you better. You won’t only improve your grammar and syntax. Writing in a journal can also help you think more creatively and find your voice.
Express emotions
Writing in a journal can help you express emotions when they feel trapped inside. It can especially help when you don’t quite know what you’re feeling. Journaling makes you realize why you’re feeling a certain way and provides you with a healthier way to deal with that emotion. If you’re angry, taking the time to write down what you’re feeling and why can force you to think more clearly and give you time to calm down. Likewise, you can also write about things that make you happy, and that can really boost your mood.
Start your personal growth journey
I would say journaling is one of the first things you should do when it comes to starting a personal growth journey. You can write down your strengths and things you can improve in. You can also learn how to self reflect, which is so important if you’re interested in personal development.
I have a 30 day self improvement challenge that comes with a free checklist to get you started on your personal growth journey.
