Whether you’re looking for a day trip or a week-long vacation, Nashville is a place you must visit at least once. Nashville is the capital of Tennessee, and it’s famous for its history country music. Keep reading to find out what I did for a weekend getaway in Nashville.
Nashville is about five hours away from my home, so a lot of our weekend was spent driving. Still, it was worth it. We left early Saturday morning and came back Sunday.
As we came into view of the city, I was amazed at the sight. I’m from a very tiny town and not used to seeing a big (to me) city. Although the day was gloomy, the sights definitely made up for it.
What we will cover:
- Restaurants in Nashville
- Things to do in Nashville: Parthenon
- Places to Stay in Nashville
- Things to do in Nashville: Night Life
- Things to do in Nashville: Johnny Cash Museum
- Other Things to do in Nashville:
Restaurants in Nashville
One of our first stops was the Loveless Cafe for lunch. This cafe is known to have fed and housed a multitude of famous country singers. This is a must if you visit Nashville! As you walk in, the walls are covered with the pictures of famous country singers who have visited. During our wait, we scanned the walls looking to see the singers we know. There were a lot.
If you thought KFC’s friend chicken and biscuits are good, Loveless cafe’s are even better. They had the best biscuits I’ve ever had in my life. The biscuits come with several flavors of preserves, like blackberry, peach, and strawberry, or soft butter. I ordered fried chicken, hash brown casserole, and cole slaw. I ate way too much, but it was so good I couldn’t help myself. It was one of the best comfort meals I’ve ever had, so it’s no surprise that so many country stars have paid this cafe a visit.
Things to do in Nashville: Parthenon
Next, we headed to the Parthenon. This is a full scale replica of the famous Parthenon in Greece. Inside, you’ll find a beautiful art gallery displaying local and old paintings and sculptures. One of my favorite parts was the statue of Athena, the Greek goddess, standing at 41 feet tall. The original sculpture in Greece was lost, but this has been reproduced according to research and other images. This was one of my favorite things to do on my weekend getaway to Nashville.
Places to Stay in Nashville
After admiring the Parthenon, we went to our hotel to put our belongings away. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in downtown Nashville. The hotel was one of the nicest I’ve stayed in. Although it was a few years old, it looked brand new and very clean. It was only a few minutes walk to the downtown happenings of Nashville.
Things to do in Nashville: Night Life
Once we put our things away and rested for a bit, we set out for the heart of downtown Nashville. We walked along music city, streets lined with honky tonk bars. There was country music coming from every corner. If you’re looking for a fun night out on the town, this is definitely it. There were party buses full of dancing people driving around everywhere. There were stores full of country music souvenirs and cowboy boots everywhere.
The evening was cold, but it was so much fun that I didn’t even notice. There were musicians walking around with their guitar cases everywhere. The city lights were bright and enchanting. The sounds of music coming from everywhere was captivating. We explored for a bit, and then we returned to our hotel room where we ended the night.
The next morning, I enjoyed one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had. The breakfast bar was lined with bagels, donuts, eggs, muffins, fresh fruit, and anything else you could have ever wanted in a breakfast.
Things to do in Nashville: Johnny Cash Museum
After breakfast, we made our way down to the Johnny Cash museum. The museum tells the store of the famous Johnny Cash. It’s full of letters, movies, songs, clothes, instruments, and the history of Johnny Cash’s life. Upstairs, there was a Patsy Cline museum, but we were limited on time so we didn’t get to explore that.
It was almost time to checkout, so we headed back to our hotel to sadly pack up. On our way back home, we made a stop at the Corvette museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This is the only place in the world where corvettes are manufactured.
Sadly, this is where our weekend getaway in Nashville came to an end. Although we enjoyed a weekend in Nashville, you may be looking to do more than we did. I have listed some others things you must do while you’re in Nashville:
