One of my favorite things to read is blog income reports. It’s so inspiring and it keeps me motivated to keep on pushing.
But there’s something they’re not telling you…
Keep reading Blog Income Report 2020: The Truth to find out what it is.
First, let’s talk about why I got started.
Why I Started a Blog
Back when I was a junior in college, I started a little blog on blogger. I loved to write and take all kinds of pictures. I spent my extra time reading blogs because sometimes I’d just rather read than watch a YouTube video.
It was just a hobby blog. I didn’t expect it to go anywhere. It did get a decent amount of views for only posting a really crappy picture on Pinterest every once in a while.
I slowly started to post less and less as college went on. By about a year and a half later, I had completely stopped posting and just forgot about it.
Over the years, I thought about it every now and again, but I just left it sitting.
10 months ago was one of those times I was thinking about that blog. I decided this time I wanted to go full in. I did research for about a month on how to start a blog.
I got my hosting from Bluehost and set up my new WordPress blog.
There was a lot to navigate. I had to choose a theme, set up my layout, add my widgets, and everything else before I could even add blog posts. It took a long time.
Like my last blog, I decided to go with the lifestyle niche because I love so many different things it was hard to choose.
One day on Pinterest, I discovered blog income reports. This changed the game. Now there was a whole new motivation for blogging. I read report after report of people making $10,000+ a month blogging. People were even making money in their first month blogging. I was so ready to make money from home blogging. This was my new dream.
Here are some of my favorite blog income reports:
- Cassie Scroggins broke $3,000/month
- Fit Mommy in Heels made $11,562 in one month
- Caroline Vencil made over $25,000 in one month
- Ell from Boss Girl Bloggers made $80,000
- It’s a Lovely Life made $2,233,236 in 2019
Here is where we get into how much money I made blogging in 2020.
Blog Income Report 2020: The Truth
$0
Wait, what?
That’s right. I made zero. Zilch. Nothing.
After seeing all of those blog income reports making money in their first month blogging, surely I had to make something right?
You’re probably wondering if I even did anything to try to make money money.
I did. I did a lot of research on affiliate marketing and implemented that. I’ve worked and am still working really hard to get traffic. Even after 10 months, I’m getting maybe 20 views a day. It’s honestly embarrassing because I was hoping for much much more. I’ve did so much research on how to get more blog traffic. I’ve researched SEO, keywords, promotion, and everything under the sun.
Here is what they don’t tell you.
Not everyone is going to get a lot of blog traffic. Maybe not even for years. I’m so happy for the bloggers who are making money, but it’s discouraging to me. I poured through hours’ worth of blog income reports really thinking I was going to get a lot of views and money. It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m going to keep working on it.
Consistency is key. If you’re like me, just keep posting and invest your time in research to continue improving. Most bloggers quit before they even get the chance to get big.
If you’re reading this because you’re not getting much traffic or making money, try not to get discouraged.
The reason you’re seeing so many bloggers make money is because no one is posting a blog income report about not making money.
That’s just the way it is. Some people get their feet off the ground immediately, and for others it takes a long time to take off.
So try not to get discouraged. Know that there are soooo many people out there going through the same thing.
Don’t compare yourself at one month with someone else who has been doing this for years.
What I’ve Learned
Even though my blog isn’t exactly a success, I will share with you what I’ve learned along the way.
- Be happy with your blog design. I wasn’t completely happy with the design before. I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted it to look like. I didn’t want to spend the time and energy trying to completely redo a design because I thought it was so much work. I bit the bullet and went for it. I found this super cute theme on Etsy and she walked me through every step of setting it up.
- Promote, promote, promote! Your blog definitely isn’t going to get seen if it’s just sitting there. People aren’t going to magically start reading your posts out of thin air. You have to promote the shiz out of that thing! Some of my favorite places to promote are Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. I’m still learning about how and when to promote on each of these platforms.
- Learn about platforms. Focus on only one or two platforms and learn everything you can about it. Learn about how often to promote your blog, posting the best images, copy to write with your post, setting up your social media for SEO, and especially the algorithms. It’s not as simple as just posting. You need to have a strategy. I learned this the hard way.
- Learn SEO. One of my biggest tips is to learn about SEO. This is what is going to drive long-term traffic. This is what gets your blog seen by search engines like Google. Learn about on and off page SEO to get organic traffic. I’ve been learning about SEO through this whole process, and I’ll probably never stop reading about it.
- Pinterest. I’ve been refining my Pinterest strategy. I still haven’t completely got that down, but I’ve learned to pin 20-30 pins per day and to make sure some of those are my fresh pins.
You may not have learned how to make money online blogging with this post, but I hope you still learned something valuable. Don’t get discouraged with the whole blogging thing. The biggest thing is that you keep pushing through. You’ll never get those views if you quit.
I hope to come back to this post someday when I’m getting a lot more blog traffic.
Please share this blog income report if you’re struggling with blogging as well!

This is the BEST blog I’ve read. It’s HONEST and TRANSPARENT! That will go a long way. I’ve dabbled through the years with the idea of blogging, until something nudged me to go for it. So I’m still working on learning, and like you deciding which is the best theme. I’ve done a lot of research, and did read it can take at least three years before seeing the benefits of hard work. I settled within myself that it’s definitely something I need to do, because that voice inside refuses to let me off the hook. So with that. I expect it will take time and I’m grateful for it, because it gives me the opportunity to learn more about SEO, ads, etc. So as you write, keep writing those encouraging words. It’s your purpose. And you’re doing an awesome job!

Thank you so much! It can be hard when it takes so long to see your hard work get paid off. Keep on going, you’re doing great! 🙂
Hi M-
Nice honest post. I’ve been blogging since 2018 and haven’t made any money either but I wasn’t really expecting to.
I read a lot of the stuff you mention but also realized I enjoy the challenge of writing and getting eyes on the work from all the social media channels.
It’s pretty therapeutic and if dollars come out of it eventually/ great. Otherwise, I’m happy just sharing in hopes someone gets something useful from my experiences.
Thank you! I feel the same way. If you enjoy what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter if you get paid- it’s just a bonus. ☺️
This is an excellent post and thank you for sharing your thoughts! Also, thank you for following Eugi’s Causerie! 😉
Thank you so much, and of course! 🤗
useful
This is so true.
I started blogging 6 months ago and I haven’t made anything yet
BUt I’m willing to go further and work more for it!
Keep going! You’ve got this! 🙂
Thank you!
I recently started a blog and to read (what I already found out) from another blogger encourages me to keep on going!
I’m glad you’re sticking with it! 🙂
Oh my gosh! I am in the exact same situation and this is INCREDIBLY inspiring. I thank you for being honest and encouraging those of us who are still working on this. You really do start to feel discouraged when you read all of these blog income reports and you feel like you’re doing everything right and getting nowhere. I am also a tiny lifestyle blogger! I just wanted to let you know that this post has absolutely encouraged me, so thank you!
I’m so happy it encouraged you. Just keep going! My income has gone up a little since then. It’s a slow process, but you’ve got this! 🙂
