The New Year is a common time to set new goals, and for a good reason. It feels like a new start, so it’s easier to get motivated to meet your goals. Instead, your goal could be to eat healthy 80-90% of the time. Also, think about the time it will take to reach your goal. You’re not going to lose 20 lbs in one week. Don’t try to meet your goals as fast as you can, meet them in a realistic time frame.
- Chunk them into smaller pieces. Goals are a lot easier to meet when you break them into smaller goals. For example, your goals might be to run a 5K in 25 minutes in a year. That’s not an unrealistic goal, but that’s a big goal if you are only able to walk right now. Start by increasing your time weekly or monthly instead. This will make your goal seem more achievable and be more motivating. Keep in mind, you can do this with all of your goals.
- Determination. Meeting your goals is a hard task. If it was easy, you wouldn’t need to set a goal. You’re going to come across more than one challenge, but you can’t give up. Even if it gets hard, you have to push through. After you push through, things will get easier. Your goals will eventually become habits, but you need to get to that point. When you feel like giving up, remember your why. Why did you choose the goal? What will happen if you don’t meet it? Determination and perseverance is the biggest component of how to meet your goals in 2020.
