Today I’ll be sharing how to boost your mood on rainy days.
Every single time it clouds up, my mood just goes way downhill. I have no energy and all I want to do is lay down all day.
A lot of our moods reflect the weather outside, and unfortunately sometimes in a negative way. When the sun’s out I have a ton of energy and feel amazing.
Here is how to boost your mood on rainy days.
Why does the Weather affect your Mood?
Before we get into how to boost your mood on rainy days, we have to learn about why the weather even affects our mood like it does.
Spending time in the sunshine increases your serotonin levels, which is a neurotransmitter that does a lot of things, and specifically makes you feel good.
When you don’t get sunshine, your serotonin level lowers and it affects your mood.
The sun also affects your circadian rhythm, so when you don’t get some sun it can make you sleepy.
Some people even have something called seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is depression linked to weather during winter months when there isn’t as much sun.
How to Boost Your Mood on Rainy Days
Get outside
Even if it’s rainy or cloudy out, sometimes still spending time in nature can help us feel a little better. So grab you an umbrella or sit out on the porch.
Go for a drive (if you can) and look at the scenery, listen to music in the car or just enjoy being out of doors and moving around in nature.
Practice gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful emotion that can help boost your mood and make you feel happier. It’s important to stay in the moment, so taking a few moments to appreciate what you have in this moment can be very beneficial for your mental health.
Be mindful of the present moment by focusing on one thing at a time instead of multitasking or worrying about multiple things at once. When we focus on one thing at a time, we become more aware of our surroundings and less likely to get distracted by other thoughts or activities that may not be as important as whatever we’re currently doing right now–which means more happiness!
Focus on the positive aspects of yourself and those around you instead of dwelling on negative ones (we all have them). This will help boost self-esteem while also encouraging others around us who might need some encouragement themselves after experiencing something difficult like rain clouds overhead during their day-to-day lives as well!
Meditate
You can meditate anywhere, but it’s best to find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed by other people or noises. The key is to focus on your breathing and clear your mind of all thoughts.
When you’re ready, try this simple meditation technique:
Sit down in a comfortable position with your back straight but not stiff (you should be able to relax). Close your eyes and take slow deep breaths through the nose for five minutes or so. Focus on inhaling through the nose, holding it in for a moment as long as possible before exhaling through pursed lips slowly–this helps calm down an excited mind!
Journal your feelings
You can journal your feelings by writing down what you are thinking, seeing and hearing.

Practice Self Care
When you’re feeling down, it can be hard to muster the energy to take care of yourself. But self-care is one of the best ways to boost your mood and feel better fast. Try one or all of these ideas:
- Take a bubble bath (or hop in the shower with some fun soap).
- Get a manicure or pedicure (and don’t forget about your eyebrows!).
- Take a nap — even if it’s just 15 minutes!
- Light some candles around the house

Have a Coffee
Coffee can help you feel more awake and alert, which is great for when you’re feeling tired or lethargic. It also helps to boost your focus, meaning that if you’re struggling with concentration problems during the day then this is one way to improve them!
You’ll also find that coffee makes it easier for us to stay on task by boosting our energy levels–and it has been shown in studies that drinking coffee makes people feel more positive overall (as compared with those who don’t drink coffee).
Exercise
Exercise is a great way to boost your mood. It can help you feel more positive, and it releases endorphins that make us feel happy.
Exercise also helps us sleep better, which in turn makes us happier because we’re not tired all day long. Plus, exercising allows us to clear our minds and think more clearly!
Turn on the Lights
Turn on the lights in your house. It’s actually a very effective way to boost your mood. The reason why is because light has an effect on serotonin levels in our brains, which help us feel happy and relaxed.
Turn on the lights at work. You can do this by opening up blinds or windows if they’re closed, as well as turning on overhead lights instead of relying solely on desk lamps (if possible).
You can also get special lights for light therapy, although you may want to talk to your doctor about this.

Cook a Nice Dinner
Cooking is a great way to relax and unwind (for some people) It’s also a great way to spend time with your family and friends.
Cooking can be therapeutic, especially when you’re feeling stressed out or down in the dumps. You can also think about incorporating foods that might make you feel better, like oranges that are full of vitamins.
Take Vitamins for Energy
Speaking of vitamins, you should also try taking vitamins that can boost your energy. Keep in mind that this isn’t medical advice, and you should always ask your doctor.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps the body fight free radicals, which can damage cells and lead to aging. It’s also involved in immune system function and cellular repair.
Vitamin B-12
Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin helps form red blood cells and keeps your nerves functioning properly. You need only 2 mcg per day for good health–but many people don’t get enough! You can find it naturally in animal products like fish (especially if they’re wild), eggs and dairy products; fortified foods like cereals.
Magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral essential for maintaining healthy bones as well as regulating blood pressure levels throughout your body while boosting energy levels.
Vitamin D
One of the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency is fatigue.
This is a vitamin that a lot of us don’t get enough of. You can actually get a lot of vitamin D by being out in the sun, which is why we tend to have a deficiency if it’s been raining.
Or you can take a vitamin D supplement.
