I started my blog a couple of months ago. As you may know, it’s hard to get traffic to a new blog. My first month, I got virtually no views. At that point, I knew I needed to change how I was doing things. When I implemented new strategies, I saw my blog traffic double. In one month. How crazy is that?
Anyway, I wanted to share my tips with you about how to double blog traffic in one month.
Here is a snippet of how my blog traffic slowly creeped up to double what it was at the beginning of the month.
Update: It’s been over a year and my blog has more than tripled what it was here. I used Pinterest with Ell to explode my blog traffic even more than I did here.
What we will cover:
SEO Strategies to Increase Blog Traffic
Keyword Research
The first thing I did was learn more about SEO. I kept hearing about how it is so important for blog traffic. I knew next to little about SEO, but after some research I was feeling a lot better about it. One thing I wasn’t doing that I should have been from the beginning was keyword research.
For those of us that started a blog later on, we probably won’t be able to surpass the short keywords used by big bloggers. If you do a search on google for blog, the already well-known blogs are going to show up. This is why it is a good reason to use long-tail keywords, which are like phrases. Instead of just searching for blog, someone might be searching for how to increase blog traffic. This would be your long-tail keyword.
I also invested more of my time into doing keyword research. This is a way to see what keywords are going to be successful. I do this through Pinterest and Google. Search for one of your keywords, like blog, on Google and Pinterest. Then see what results come up that you can incorporate into your title, blog post, alt image, and metadescription.
Here are some results from Pinterest. See those tabs at the top? Those are some of the keywords you should consider using.
You can also do the same thing with Google. If you type in your keywords, scroll all the way to the bottom and there will be some related keywords you can use.
Another strategy you can use is to use Google’s Keyword Planner.
Inbound and Outbound Links
For SEO, I also focused on including more links. I strategized what blog posts I should write that I could link back to so I could incorporate internal links. For instance, I already had a post about how to save money, so in my post about how to make money, I linked back to this. You should also incorporate outbound links from other blogs.
Social Media Strategies to Grow Blog Traffic
Another major change I made was how I used social media. I had only been using social media to post my blog posts. To increase your followers and views, you should be posting on social media probably everyday, even if it’s not promoting your own content. I learned that social media is so important for creating a community. I posted my content to threads for sharing blog posts on twitter. I joined a lot of Facebook groups for the blogging community. Pinterest is the main source of social media that I use, so I’ll talk about that separately.
Pinterest has been the main source of my traffic for my blog. I’ve been working extra hard to get my viewers and interactions with my pins on there.
Melyssa Griffin has some amazing resources for improving Pinterest traffic. One thing I’ve came to learn after a lot of research is that Pinterest is a search engine, and it should be used like one. I started including better descriptions that used keywords. I started optimizing my titles. I started using better images.
On Pinterest, you should be using vertical images. I started off using 600×900 pixel size, which is good, but I wanted to use even longer images. I created some that are 600×1000 and 600×1260. I use Canva to edit my pictures. Think bright, pops of color, and text to describe your posts.
Tailwind
Tailwind is amazing. I started using Tailwind, and my traffic started growing. I installed the extension and joined a few tribes. Anytime I would scroll through Pinterest, I would use the extension to schedule posts to Tailwind. Keep in mind, I am using the free version of Tailwind. You don’t have to pay any money to do this.
When you schedule to Tailwind, it shows up on your Pinterest as if you’ve created the pin. With this, it shows you the number of views on the pin. With a new blog, I found it difficult to post the same content with different images because on my profile, all it was showing were the pins from my blog. I didn’t have many posts at this time, so it looked like I was spamming with back to back content. Since I started using Tailwind, I can post my content more than once without it looking too much like spam.
You can keep using Tailwind for free after you run out of drafts. Schedule your pins like normal. If you’re using the free version, there is an extra step after this. You must go to your scheduled pins on Tailwind and manually pin it from here.
In conclusion: How to Double Blog Traffic
There were several strategies I used to double my blog traffic in a month. I used SEO through keyword research and links, I started posting on social media more, and I optimized my content on Pinterest,
I hope my personal experience helped you with how to double your blog traffic in a month!
