Self care is super important for your mental health and happiness. That is why I’m going to be sharing with you self care for the mind you should practice daily.
When you’re having a bad day, you can do these self care ideas to pick you up.
Even if you’re having a good day, you can still use these self care practices to make it a little better.
Here is some self care for the mind that you should start practicing daily.
Self Care for the Mind
Start a Journal
Journaling is one of the best self care activities you can do.
Similar to meditating, journaling is good for your mind and soul. What you’ll find in common among the most successful entrepreneurs is that they keep a journal.
There are a few different types of journals including
- Gratitude journal
- Bullet journal
- Dream journal
- Travel journal
- Law of attraction journal
- Diary
No matter what kind of journal you have, you can see the benefits of journaling. Journaling is a way to help you cope with stress and is wondering for your mental health.
Writing in your journal allows you to creatively process your thoughts and emotions and then can help you deal with them in a healthier way. You can simply write out the thoughts and feelings that you’re having when you’re feeling anxious and stress.
Gratitude journals are also amazing. Sometimes it’s hard to see the good in life. If you take just a few minutes to think about the things you’re grateful for, it makes you realize that there are good things in your life.
Gratitude journals are a perfect part of your morning routine because it makes you grateful and starts your day off in a positive way.
Another way I like to use journals is for bullet journaling. I like to keep a fitness tracker to track my workouts and a mood tracker to see patterns over time. You can also use this for any other part of your life, like for tracking your finances and habits.
Meditate Daily
Meditation is a great self care practice that you should start.
You can start meditation to reduce stress and clear your mind.
Whenever you’re having negative thoughts or you’re in a bad mood, try meditating.
It’s a way that you can step back from the world and just focus on your breathing.
Meditating daily has so many benefits like
- Reducing stress
- Controlling anxiety
- Lengthening attention span
- Fighting addictions
- Improving sleep
- Reducing pain
- Increasing happiness
Start by sitting in a comfortable position. Focus on your breath and just observe your thoughts as they pass by.
Be Creative
Being creative is amazing way to practice self care.
Doing something creative is amazing for your mind, body, and soul.
It’s an outlet you can use to make you feel better.
Being creative allows you to solve problems and see things from a different perspective.
Do Something for Yourself
You need quality time with yourself just like you would in a relationship.
Find time to do stuff you enjoy by yourself. Turn off the TV. Turn off your phone. Take yourself on a date.
Start doing at least one self care activity every single day.
This is key to loving yourself more, which can then help you be happier when you’re by yourself instead of lonely.
Practice Gratitude
A new habit I’ve recently started to feel happier alone is to practice gratitude.
Every morning I wake up, and I think of at least three things I am grateful for.
Practicing gratitude forces you to think about the good in life and changes your negative mindset to a positive one.
Instead of waking up and thinking about how much you dread the day, wake up and think of all of the things you’re grateful for. Even if you feel like you don’t have much to be grateful for because of your life situation, you can find small things and it will still change your mindset.

Take a Bath
Taking a bath is super relaxing.
If you’ve had a long, stressful day, take a bath.
Make taking a nice soak one of your self care rituals.
Lights some candles, and add some things to your bath for extra effect if you’d like. I love using something with lavender and Epsom salt to relax me.
Listen to Music you Love
Just like everything else on this list, music is great self care for the mind.
It relieves stress and just makes you happier in general.
Turn Off your Cell Phone
There have been studies that have shown that social media negatively affects self esteem and mental health.
Take a step back from social media at least just to see if it makes you feel better.
When we’re constantly scrolling through social media, we’re comparing ourselves to others whether we realize it or not.
And then there’s FOMO (fear of missing out). When we look at social media, we mostly see friends together instead of one person. Don’t let this fool you. These are just the highlights.
Take a break from social media and you’ll realize how refreshed you feel mentally.
Go Outside
Spending time in nature is good for your soul.
This is one of the best ways to practice self care for the mind.
That’s not just an anecdote. Research has actually proved it.
Spending time outside automatically boosts your mood, even if it’s just for five minutes.
Read a Book
Learning something should be part of your self care routine, and reading a book is the perfect way to do that.
Reading takes your mind off of everything going on in the outside world and you get to live in your own world for a bit.
You can read about my favorite books for personal growth here.
Practice Self Love
Self love is so important for our mental health. You need to make practicing self love a daily habit NOW.
You are responsible for your own happiness.
You can’t depend on anyone else for your happiness. That’s on you. The only way you’re truly going to be happy is when you start loving yourself.
When you’re treating yourself right, you’re getting rid of all of those toxic things and replacing them with happy, positive things.
Start incorporating self love into your routine daily.
If you’re having trouble, here are some self love quotes to get you started.
Spend Time with People you Love
The best self care routines include spending time with the people you love. Don’t just wake up and go straight to your office and shut the door. Remember to spend time with your family.
Family should be one of your biggest priorities. A lot of people just work work work and then realize how time fast has gone and how little time they’ve spent with their families. Don’t be that person.
You could simply have a nice talk with them in the morning, go for a walk with them, or make breakfast with them.
Don’t be the person that looks back on their life and wishes they would have been more time with their family.
Take Time to Reflect
Taking time to learn and grow should be a part of your self care for the mind.
Take time to reflect everyday.
You could reflect on how your day went, a book you read, a movie you watched, or anything.
Self reflection allows you to build awareness and gain a better understanding of yourself.
Do Activities with Purpose
Whenever you do an activity, do it with purpose.
It can be hard, but try to put 100% into whatever you’re doing.
It’s okay to mindlessly do an activity, but sometimes have a specific goal for the activity you’re doing.
Have a Hobby
As a part of your self care routine, you should try a new hobby or take the time to do one you already started.
Hobbies are things we enjoy doing, so it’s going to bring more happiness to your day.
Instead of stressing about the day you had, try immersing yourself in a hobby.
I hope you enjoyed these self care practice ideas for the mind!
