Fall is a great time to start saving money because of all of the holidays coming up.
Save the stress and use these spending hacks to save money this Fall in preparation for the holidays.
You can even start saving money to get some fall decorations. That’s what I’m using these spending hacks for right now.
I hope you enjoy and don’t forget to pin for later!
Make a Shopping List
I can’t count the times I’ve went to a store for one or two things and came out with 20.
It’s usually little stuff that I didn’t really need.
I always do that except when I make a shopping list.
Whether it’s a written down on paper or your notes on your phone, take a shopping list with you and KEEP TO IT.
Don’t even think about going down those other aisles that you don’t need to cause it’s hard to fight the temptation.
Start Couponing
One of the best spending hacks is to use coupons.
You can just use them every now and again, or you can actually take coupon classes.
You can buy things in bulk for a lot less, saving a ton of money in the long run.
I’m not expert on couponing, but you can check out the Krazy Coupon Lady for all the resources you need to get started couponing.
Use a cash back App
It always makes shopping (even grocery shopping) a little more fun when you can get cash back just for buying certain items.
My personal favorite cash back app is Ibotta.
Ibotta is simple and convenient. All you have to do is make a grocery list of select products in Ibotta, go grocery shopping, scan your receipt, and you’ll get cashback in the form of a gift card or money in your bank.
You also get a $20 sign up bonus when you try the Ibotta app here!
Make a Meal Plan
Do you have food to cook but it’s been a long day and now all you want is fast food?
Meal prepping makes it easier to eat at home, which is one of my favorite spending hacks to save money.
On one day of the week, go ahead and plan and prep your meals so they will be ready to go.
If you don’t want to do it yourself, you can have 5 Dollar Meal Plan do it for you.
5 Dollar Meal Plan is a weekly meal plan service that saves you time, energy, and money.
For just $5 a month, they will send you a meal plan where every meal will cost about $2 per person, and in most cases less.
They are now offering a free 14 day trial that you can sign up for here.
Get Healthy
I know it seems like unhealthy food is cheaper, and sometimes it is.
Being healthy is worth paying a little more for food when you’re going to be saving money in medical bills.
Being healthy will save you a lot of money in the long run, when you’re not paying all kinds of medical bills.
Pay off Debt
Speaking of debt, another spending hack to save money is to pay off your debt ASAP.
Whether it’s medical debt, credit card debt, or student loans, start working towards paying those off first.
You’re going to save a lot of money this way because you won’t pay as much in interest.
Cut out Bad Money Habits
If you want to save money, you need to cut out all of your bad money habits.
Once it’s a habit, it’s hard to stop. Buying things brand new. Not comparing prices for things like insurance. These are some things you need to STOP.
You can read more bad money habits you need to quit here.
Start a Savings Account
If you don’t have one already, start a savings account. If you do have one, make a better plan for using it.
Before you start, budget the money you’ll need to spend for the month. Leave some extra just in case.
Then put the rest into your savings account, and DON’T TOUCH IT.
You might even look into starting a high yield savings account to make a little extra.
Do a Money Challenge
Everything else we’ve talked about is kinda boring. Make saving money fun by doing saving challenges.
You’ll be surprised how much you can save when you’re doing one of these challenges.
I have a list of money saving challenges you can try here.
Start a Budget
Starting a budget is the first thing you should do when it comes to saving money.
Basically, it’s your income-expenses. It lets you know where your money is going and how much you can save each month.
Build an Emergency Fund
I learned my lesson with this spending hack.
I all of the sudden had unexpected medical bills, and I had no way to pay them.
It’ll save you money and stress if you build an emergency fund early on.
Track your Spending
How are you supposed to save money if you don’t know where it’s going?
I don’t know how many times I’ve started a free trial and it automatically renewed even though I didn’t want it to, so that’s extra I have to pay.
Don’t do this. Keep track of everything you’re spending money on. The subscription you forgot about. The snack at the store.
Trust me, it adds up fast.
Get Free Gift Cards when you Scan Receipts
Fetch Rewards makes spending money fun.
I’ve cashed in a couple of gift cards and I haven’t even been using it long.
You can get points towards a gift card any time you scan a receipt.
You can get a bonus of 2,000 points after scanning your first receipt when you sign up for Fetch Rewards here.
Set Financial Goals
The last spending hack to save money I have for you is setting financial goals.
It makes it much easier to save money when you’re striving for something specific.
Set goals for how much you want to save weekly, monthly, and yearly.
If you achieve those goals, great! You’re on your way! If not, review your goals and see why you didn’t meet them.
Make a new plan for how you’re going to meet your financial goals.
