One of the worst feelings is when you know you need to get stuff done, but you just don’t have the energy to do anything.
Sometimes that feeling lasts for weeks or months, and you just can’t get yourself out of the funk.
It has been especially difficult since we’ve been stuck at home during the quarantine. I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent a lot of time laying in bed, and I have no energy.
Keep reading to find out ways you can get re-energized when you’re tired to give you just the right energy boost.
(Hint: These tips also work if you want to know how to wake up early without feeling tired.)
Why do I Have No Energy?
First of all, let’s talk about why you have no energy. There could be a few different reasons. Some of them are obvious, and some of them not so obvious.
- Lack of (quality) sleep
- Stress
- Vitamin deficiency
- Anemia
- Depression
- Your environment
- Bad habits
These are only some of the reasons you could be tired. Keep in mind, it might not be caused by any of these things.
You could just genuinely be tired.
Either way, here are some ways to get re-energized when you just can’t seem to get out of bed.
Ways to Get Re-energized
Clean Up Your House
Although it’s hard to do when you have no energy, try cleaning up the area where you spend the most time.
It makes it hard to be productive when you’re surrounded by a mess. Take a day to clean up and organize your room or office.
You’ll find that you feel so much better.
Once I realized how much a clean room actually helped me be more productive, I try to keep it clean.
You’ll be surprised how big of a boost it gives you in terms of energy.
Have a Cup of Coffee
This is probably the most obvious one on the list. The next time you’re feeling groggy, trying having a cup of coffee.
The caffeine is more than likely going to wake you right up
If you feel like you’re always tired, you probably need to try some other methods to address the root issue of your lack of energy.
Get Some Exercise
Besides coffee, this is another great way to re-energize.
As a college student, I used this one a lot.
When I had an early morning class or had to stay up all night studying, I would get up and run in place or do some jumping jacks.
Moving around is sure to get your heart rate up and get you ready for the day.
Another reason I love exercise is because it doesn’t just give you a short burst of energy.
If you’re having trouble getting motivated enough to exercise, here are some fitness motivation quotes to help.
If you get some exercise in the morning, that’s going to give you a big energy boost for the rest of the day.
Make a To-do List
If I know I have a lot to do, but haven’t actually narrowed it down, I’m sluggish all day just because I dread working on the stuff I need to get done.
Every time I make a to do list and schedule, I automatically feel more energized because I’m not just waiting around to get it done.
If you’re like me, you love the feeling of checking things off of your to-do list.
Making a to-do list will make you feel more productive, energize you, and give you time to relax once you’ve check everything off.
Create a Routine
One of the reasons you don’t have any energy could be because you don’t have a routine.
When you go to sleep and wake up at a different time every day, your body isn’t used to it, so you’re more tired than normal.
Start setting a time that you want to be asleep and awake by and see if you notice a difference in your energy when you make it a routine.
Try cutting out your bad habits and create new habits to replace them.
Get More Sleep
This is yet another obvious one. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’re probably going to be tired. I won’t tell you how much sleep to get because everyone needs a different amount.
Try out sleeping a few different amounts and see if there is a difference in how tired you are to find just the right amount.
What’s not so obvious about sleep is that it’s not just the amount you sleep. If you’re sleeping 8 hours and still feeling tired, you could just not be getting enough deep sleep.
If you have a device like a Fitbit, you can actually see your sleep stages and if you’re getting good quality sleep.
Eat the Right Foods
Food is where our energy comes from, so it make sense that eating unhealthy foods will make you want to lay in bed all day.
Start incorporating fruits and veggies into your diet and start cutting out all of the junk food.
Drink Enough Water
Just like food, water directly affects your energy level.
Start drinking a glass of lemon water every morning and drink at least 8 cups of water a day,
You’ll start feeling so much more energized every day that you drink water.
Go Outside
Spending time in nature is good for your soul.
This is one of the best ways to get re-energized.
That’s not just an anecdote. Research has actually proved it.
Spending time outside boosts your mood and restores your energy.
Soak up the Sunlight
Spending time in nature, even when it’s cloudy, can get you re-energized.
Specifically, if you spend some time in the sun, you can double up and feel even more energized.
If you’re going to spend time outside, please wear sunscreen. You can learn more about sunburn prevention and remedies here.
Essential Oils
There are certain essential oils that are known to give you extra energy.
Some of the essential oils you can use for energy are:
- Peppermint
- Rosemary
- Lemon
- Spearmint
Take Supplements/Vitamins
Vitamin deficiencies could be another reason you have no energy.
An easy way to combat this is to take vitamins or supplements.
Some of the most common vitamins/supplements to take to increase your energy is vitamin B12 and iron.
Manage Your Stress
An underlying problem that you may not even realize affects your energy is stress.
When I’m stressed, all I want to do is curl up in a ball and lay in bed all day.
Find ways to manage your stress to boost your energy, like meditating, journaling, or doing yoga.
Recently I’ve started taking Ashwagandha supplements and I can already tell the difference in what would normally be stressful situations.
Self Care Routine
Last but not least, you need to take care of yourself. Not just physically, but mentally.
Your body isn’t the only thing that gets tired. Make sure you practice self love.
Take time to do something for yourself as a part of your self care routine, and you’ll definitely feel like you have more energy.
